I am 41. I have lived in this house since my father died when I was 21. I stepped into the gap. I maintained the physical security of the property in an environment where home invasions and violence are not theoretical. I have kept systems running. I have held the perimeter. None of that registers as contribution.

What registers is money. Immediate, visible, transactional currency. Everything else—security, infrastructure, labor that keeps the place from collapsing—is erased. That is the valuation system I am dealing with.

The pattern is consistent. I ask a straightforward logistical question. I do not yell. I do not invent drama. I state facts that are already on the table: my brother covers the utilities, my sister covers the bulk of her living costs, and the claim that I contribute nothing is false on its face. The response is not engagement with those facts. The response is escalation. Court. Eviction. “I’ve already spoken to them.” Threats of being thrown onto the street. The sudden insistence that a 41-year-old man living under “her” roof must live by her rules—rules that amount to living like an old lady: no noise, no life, no exit, no independent trajectory.

This is not a misunderstanding. This is a closed family system protecting its homeostasis.

In Bowen family systems terms, low-differentiation households treat any move toward autonomy as an existential threat. The system does not negotiate. It destabilizes. The scapegoat is the designated absorber of that destabilization. I was assigned that role years ago. Every unacknowledged failure, every piece of internal rot, every refusal of accountability gets projected onto me. When I refuse the projection and simply restate observable reality, the system experiences it as attack and responds with manufactured crisis.

The mechanism is a double bind. If I build independent infrastructure—AI systems, payment platforms, automation, the actual work that creates future income—I am treated as a threat to control. If I stay quiet and continue providing non-monetary value, I am accused of contributing nothing. Both paths are punished. The purpose is not resolution. The purpose is exhaustion and containment.

Clinically, this tracks with severe Cluster B dynamics, specifically the antagonistic features of Narcissistic Personality Disorder as described in the DSM-5 framework: grandiosity, lack of empathy, and a rigid reliance on external supply. Non-monetary contributions do not count as supply. Security does not count. The only accepted currency is the one that can be immediately extracted and controlled. Presenting contradictory facts triggers defensive hostility, revision of history, and threats of displacement. That is not debate. That is the system defending its false narrative.

I have watched the same script play out with my sister in earlier years. The consistency is the evidence. The diagnosis is not speculative at this point; the behavior is the data.

I will not sanitize the malevolence. Ancient language had a term for the active inversion of truth, the parasitic drain on another person’s life force, the systematic destruction of peace inside a household: Satan. That force does not only live in politicians or murderers. It lives in ordinary domestic spaces when a parent treats their adult child’s existence as a resource to be managed, threatened, or discarded the moment it stops serving the parent’s comfort. She expects to see me become something that validates her before she dies. That is her problem, not mine. I will not organize my remaining years around her mortality timeline or her demand that I live as a contained, quiet extension of her rules.

I do not have the money right now to simply leave. That is a material fact. Medical needs exist that are currently blocked by the same financial and environmental constraints. Those are also facts. What is not a fact is the claim that I must remain trapped in the loop, debating an irrational system, or performing the role of the quiet, compliant adult child who has already given two years of near-total isolation and still gets told it is a good thing.

The only workable response is radical decoupling of attention and energy. Facts do not penetrate a structure built on self-preservation through denial. Debate is a trap that drains cognitive and physical resources. The noise is ambient. My focus stays on what I control: the technical work, the automation pipelines, the platforms, the path to hiring, the construction of independent infrastructure. Every unit of progress there is a unit of distance from the system that requires my containment.

I am not living like an old lady. I am not accepting the inverted reality in which providing security is invisible and asking a clear question is aggression. The system can continue its script. I am building outside it.
